Basketball Recap: Kendall Proffitt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Johns Country Day over Lake Marion

St. Johns Country Day's tournament run continued when they took on Lake Marion on Monday. The St. Johns Country Day Spartans lost to the Lake Marion Gators on the road by a 37-23 margin. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

St. Johns Country Day lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kendall Proffitt, who posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Proffitt has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Mejias, who had nine points.

Leading Lake Marion to victory were Zimarika Moorer and Teonna Allen. Moorer dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Allen almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimyria Green, who put up six points and six rebounds.

St. Johns Country Day has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-4 record this season. As for Lake Marion, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

St. Johns Country Day will challenge Florida School for the Deaf & Blind at 6:00 p.m. on January 7th. Florida School for the Deaf & Blind's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so St. Johns Country Day's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lake Marion, they will host Timberland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Marion is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
