Kewanee hasn't had much luck against Princeton recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Boilermakers will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Kewanee has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kewanee came out on top against Galesburg on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Boilermakers took their game against the Silver Streaks 15-11. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Boilermakers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Colson Welgat was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Peed, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.
Kewanee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Princeton was able to grind out a solid victory over Ottawa on Friday, taking the game 12-9. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Like Kewanee, Princeton also got a great game from a two-way player: Ace Christiansen. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Christiansen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Princeton let Stihl Brokaw and Jordan Reinhardt run wild. Brokaw went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Reinhardt went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Brokaw is becoming a predictor of Princeton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 8-11-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nolan Kloepping, who earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
The victory made it two in a row for Princeton and bumps their season record up to 10-12-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Kewanee, their record now sits at 12-18.
Kewanee couldn't quite finish off Princeton when the teams last played on May 1st and fell 6-4. Can the Boilermakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
