Softball Recap: Model Gets the Win

Model hadn't done well against Shelby County recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Patriots walked away with a 14-9 win over the Rockets. For the Patriots, this counts as revenge for the 18-2 victory the Rockets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Kendall Maggard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, Model let Rylli Hunt and Aliyah Wever run wild. Hunt went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Wever went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those five hits gave Hunt a new career-high. Maddie Cain was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Model was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shelby County only posted a batting average of .258.

The win made it two in a row for Model and bumps their season record up to 15-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Shelby County, their record now sits at 7-14.

Looking ahead, Model is taking a road trip to challenge Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shelby County, they will welcome Carroll County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
