Softball Game Preview: Clinton Maroons vs. Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals

Clinton is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Warrensburg-Latham a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Clinton Maroons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Clinton has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Clinton came up short against El Paso-Gridley on Saturday, falling 11-5.

Aliviyah Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered 11 runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Riley Fentress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hadley Humble, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Warrensburg-Latham posted their closest win since May 7, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Taylorville 5-3.

The win got Warrensburg-Latham back to even at 4-4. As for Clinton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Clinton might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Warrensburg-Latham in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
