Volleyball Recap: Columbian Comes Up Short

If Columbian was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Hopewell-Loudon on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tornadoes fell just short of the Liberty-Benton Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Tornadoes haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Columbian sadly wound up on the wrong side. The final score came out to 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9.

When it comes to explaining why Columbian lost, don't look at Emma Daugherty. Despite the final result, she had 29 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Erica Raubenolt, who had 11 digs and one assist.

Liberty-Benton was led to victory by Maddy Amstutz and Evelyn Ricker. Amstutz had 31 digs and three aces, while Ricker had 17 digs and one assist. Amstutz is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 16 or more in each of the last nine games she's played dating back to last season.

Columbian's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Columbian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Shelby on the 19th. As for Liberty-Benton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Eastwood on the 21st.
