Baseball Recap: Marquette Beats Maquoketa Valley for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Marquette had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats a 5-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Defenders also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2019.

Marquette's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Maquoketa Valley, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Looking ahead, Marquette will head out to challenge Anamosa at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Maquoketa Valley, they will welcome Starmont at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Stars will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
