Basketball Recap: Canisius Falls Short Against Ranked St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute

On Friday, Canisius faced St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Canisius Crusaders fell 55-48 to the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Marauders earlier this season, when they won 51-49.

Loss or not, Canisius got some senior leadership from Patrick Enright and Nicholas Purdie. Enright posted eight points and 14 rebounds, while Purdie put up 15 points and seven boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Enright a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Cullinan, who scored seven points.

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gionni Zelasko, who earned 12 points. Mekhi Gidney was another key player, putting up 15 points and five boards.

Canisius suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 20-4. As for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.

As of now, neither Canisius nor St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute have any future games scheduled.
