Basketball Game Preview: Veritas Prep Falcons vs. Cicero Prep Academy Centurions

Veritas Prep and Cicero Prep Academy are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Veritas Prep Falcons will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cicero Prep Academy Centurions at 7:00 p.m. Veritas Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.

Veritas Prep is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Alchesay on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. 2025 welcomed Veritas Prep with a 55-35 loss courtesy of Alchesay.

Veritas Prep's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Baylor Arnold, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 12 points, and Will Barrett, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 10 points. Arnold is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jack Mason was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Veritas Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cicero Prep Academy lost to Valley Lutheran on the road by a 51-37 margin on Tuesday. The Centurions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Veritas Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Cicero Prep Academy, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-7.

Everything came up roses for Veritas Prep against Cicero Prep Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2022, as the squad secured a 76-48 victory. In that contest, Veritas Prep amassed a halftime lead of 51-26, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
