Basketball Recap: Alex Nieto Key Part of a Team Effort in Miners Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bayfield, Telluride was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Dolores Bears by a score of 57-49. The Miners have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.

Telluride's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Nieto led the charge by going 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Langston Silbergeld, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Telluride smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Dolores lost, don't look at Trayton Traweek. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points along with five boards and three steals. Traweek is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Michael Rantz was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Telluride moved to 4-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Dolores, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Telluride didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-35 loss against Ridgway on the 16th. As for Dolores, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-39 win against Mancos on the 17th.
