Baseball Game Preview: McKenzie Rebels vs. Westview Chargers

The McKenzie Rebels will challenge the Westview Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

McKenzie took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Houston County with a sharp 11-4 win. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Fighting Irish recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Westview had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They blew past the Tigers 15-5. Considering the Chargers have won nine games by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Anderson Cary spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Graham Simpson and Easton Wyatt did most of the damage at the plate: Simpson went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Wyatt went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Wyatt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miles Brown, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Westview pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for McKenzie, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.
