Softball Recap: North Central Comes Up Short

North Central suffered their closest defeat since May 14, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the McBee Panthers by a score of 6-4. The Knights were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Mackenzie Melton was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Melton wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addie Bittner, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

North Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for McBee, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Central will venture away from home to square off against Cheraw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McBee, they will head out on the road to challenge Lee Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
