Softball Game Preview: Alexandria Trojans vs. North DeSoto Griffins

Alexandria hasn't had much luck against North DeSoto recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Alexandria will head out to challenge North DeSoto at 5:30 p.m. Alexandria knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully North DeSoto likes a good challenge.

Alexandria barely beat Ruston the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Alexandria was the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over Ruston on Thursday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Lauren Bonnette spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mary Claire Brinkman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anniston Fairbanks, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Alexandria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ruston only posted a batting average of .250.

Meanwhile, after a string of 17 wins, North DeSoto's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Calvary Baptist Academy by a score of 5-4.

Alexandria has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. North DeSoto's defeat dropped their record down to 19-3.

Alexandria suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to North DeSoto in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Alexandria avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
