Football Recap: Hazlehurst Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Hazlehurst was feeling good fresh off their 40-6 takedown of Gentry last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians had to suffer through a 47-14 loss at the hands of the McComb Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Tigers are ranked 33rd).

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brandon Haines, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McComb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Broderick Peters, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Jace Jackson was another key back, rushing for 62 yards and one score on only five carries.

Hazlehurst's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for McComb, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Hazlehurst didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-20 win against Port Gibson on the 3rd. As for McComb, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-34 victory against Poplarville on the 3rd.
