Football Recap: Tampa Catholic Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

Tampa Catholic made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Navarre, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tampa Catholic Crusaders' defense stepped up to hand the Navarre Raiders a 21-0 shutout on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won three matches by 21 points or more so far this season.

Tampa Catholic had a senior duo take command as Audrey Kopp picked up 45 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Ava Kopp threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Audrey also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks and making four total tackles. Isabella Maldonado made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Tampa Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Izzy Rein, Maldonado, and Samantha Dobson picked up one apiece. The dominant performance also gave Dobson a new career-high in defended passes (four). Maldonado got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Tampa Catholic pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 1.2 points on average over those games. As for Navarre, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-4.

Tampa Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 19-12 victory against Sumner on the 12th. As for Navarre, they have also already played their next game, a 46-7 win against Gulf Breeze on the 12th.
