Baseball Game Preview: Somerset Berkley Regional Raiders vs. Case Cardinals

The Somerset Berkley Regional Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Case Cardinals at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Somerset Berkley Regional has four straight victories, Case has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Somerset Berkley Regional beats Case with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Raiders came out on top against West Bridgewater by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday.

Evan Isidorio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryan Crook, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jayden Cruz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Apponequet Regional hit Case with a five-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cardinals fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 10-9. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Lucas Saltmarsh was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Jacob Weisburgh was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Somerset Berkley Regional's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Case, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Somerset Berkley Regional skirted past Case 4-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
