Baseball Game Preview: Simeon Wolverines vs. Morgan Park Mustangs

For the second straight game, Simeon will face off against Morgan Park. The Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Simeon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Simeon took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Morgan Park, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Mustangs on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted against the Mustangs since May 4, 2022.

Antonio Porterfield tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Simeon is 4-1 when Porterfield allows three or fewer earned runs, but 8-9-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Cavion Danley was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Simeon's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-0-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Antwan Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Simeon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Morgan Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8-2.
