Baseball Recap: Payton College Prep Find Success

Payton College Prep's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Jones Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The Grizzlies have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

The result came thanks to Derek Patton's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Payton College Prep's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 10-17 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Merrill, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Payton College Prep's victory bumped their record up to 13-17. As for Jones, their loss dropped their record down to 14-16.

Coming up, Payton College Prep will take on Maine West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jones does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
