Baseball Game Preview: Crestwood Chargers vs. Thurston Eagles

The Crestwood Chargers will head out to take on the Thurston Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crestwood managed to slip by Thurston the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Chargers came up short against the Eagles on Monday, falling 10-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Chargers' seventh straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

For Thurston's part, Kosta Haack made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Haack has become a key player for Thurston: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-6 otherwise. Haack was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Desmond Ferguson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Thurston's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Leo Mello was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Thurston lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Thurston's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Crestwood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
