Baseball Recap: Southwest Edgecombe Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

SouthWest Edgecombe put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Tarboro Vikings with a sharp 14-1 win. That looming 14-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Chase Taylor spent all three innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Parker Gay was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Derrick Davis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

SouthWest Edgecombe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in four consecutive games.

SouthWest Edgecombe's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tarboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars face off against Farmville Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. SouthWest Edgecombe's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Farmville Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Tarboro, they will host Louisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
