Softball Recap: Lapel Takes a Loss

Lapel dropped to 7-6 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Hagerstown Tigers by a score of 9-8. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Tigers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Delaney Balser and Madison Wainscott did some serious damage despite the final result: Balser went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Wainscott went 2-for-4 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jama Everman, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

As for Hagerstown, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

On Hagerstown's side, Payton Cones was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Cones has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Robertson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Coley Parrish, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lapel and Hagerstown should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 108th) will meet Madison-Grant (ranked 305th) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hagerstown will face off against Knightstown at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (35 vs. 152).
