Football Game Preview: Coconut Creek Cougars vs. Mater Academy Charter Lions + Official Tickets

After each having a week off, the Coconut Creek Cougars and the Mater Academy Charter Lions will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Two weeks ago, Coconut Creek humbled Stoneman Douglas with a 34-6 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Eagles are ranked 401st).

Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter never let their opponents score two weeks ago. They blew past Jackson 45-0.

One reason for the win was Mater Academy Charter's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 13 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Taishawn Williams and Victor Latimore, who racked up eight sacks between them. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 5.1 total tackles per game. Mater Academy Charter received some extra help from Rahdel Jeanbaptiste, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

The victory made it two in a row for Coconut Creek and bumps their season record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 12 points in those games. As for Mater Academy Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
