Basketball Recap: Canterbury's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Canterbury was the 64-46 winner over LaBelle when they last played one another back in January of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Canterbury Cougars took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (57), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Canterbury still got an impressive performance from Carlisle Barker, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 18 points and eight boards. Barker continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kyle Scharlau was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Canterbury smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead LaBelle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Giovanni Beaver, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Beaver has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Arrie Davis Jr., who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

Canterbury moved to 5-12 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for LaBelle, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

Canterbury has already played their next contest, an 86-48 win against Naples Classical on the 14th. As for LaBelle, they will face off against Okeechobee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. LaBelle is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season.
