Basketball Recap: Williston Comes Up Short

Williston lost against Newberry back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Red Devils took a 70-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Panthers are ranked fifth).

When it comes to explaining why Williston lost, don't look at Traeston Armstrong. Despite the final result, he posted 22 points and eight rebounds. Armstrong continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcus Appling, who earned ten points.

This is the second loss in a row for Williston and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Newberry, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Williston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-31 victory against Chiefland on the 15th. As for Newberry, they will head out to face off against P.K. Yonge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will be up against the Blue Wave's rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.86 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
