Softball Recap: Geneva County Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Geneva County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Cottonwood Bears. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Addie Mae Habbard was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times she's played.

In other batting news, Kaylee Watson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Raine Dunn was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Geneva County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Geneva County's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Cottonwood, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Geneva County will head out to square off against Samson at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Cottonwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Ashford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
