Football Game Preview: Porter Spartans vs. La Porte Bulldogs

The Porter Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the La Porte Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

On Thursday, Porter took their matchup with ease, bagging a 42-7 victory over Pasadena. That looming 42-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Spartans yet this season.

Porter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stone Singletary, who rushed for 50 yards and two scores, and also threw for 102 yards and one TD while completing 77.8% of his passes. Another back making a difference was Landon Binford, who gained 92 total yards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Porte). They blew past Fort Bend Kempner, posting a 63-12 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Cougars are ranked 684th).

La Porte's win came from a few key players Porter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sean Simon, who rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Simon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 105 every time he's taken the field this season. Payton Smith did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 110 receiving yards.

La Porte was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 231 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Porter and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for La Porte, their record is now 5-1.

Porter suffered a grim 41-20 defeat to La Porte in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Spartans, Tyresse Barnes (who rushed for 151 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
