Basketball Recap: Hialeah Gardens Piles Up the Points Against Imater Charter

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hialeah Gardens). They claimed a resounding 78-39 victory over the IMater Charter Knights. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.

Hialeah Gardens was led to victory by Sean Leon and Eduardo Hernandez. Leon posted 20 points in addition to seven boards and five assists, while Hernandez had 28 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Hernandez continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiel Valdez, who put up eight points and five steals.

Hialeah Gardens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.

IMater Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alain Alvarez, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points. Alvarez has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Hernandez, who posted eight points.

Hialeah Gardens' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6. As for iMater Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Hialeah Gardens wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 40-35 victory against Killian on the 9th. As for iMater Charter, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-46 win against International Studies on the 9th.
