Softball Recap: Nicholas County Comes Up Short on the Road Against Hoover

Nicholas County had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 8-5 to the Hoover Huskies on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost nine in a row.

Abby Hilleary put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Hilleary was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.

Hilleary wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Makenzie Hanshaw, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another was Myah Scott, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Hoover and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nicholas County will welcome Midland Trail at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hoover, they will host Logan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give Hoover their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
