Baseball Recap: Sayre Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Sayre won the last time they faced Henry Clay and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Spartans put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 10-3 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

Jaxson Howard tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sayre let Jaxon Herrera and Gary Gibson run wild. Herrera scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Gibson fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Herrera also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Camden Stout, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Sayre lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sayre pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Henry Clay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Sayre will look to defend their home field on Friday against Boyle County at 5:30 p.m. As for Henry Clay, they will head out on the road to take on Pulaski County at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
