Preview: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. East Hardy Cougars
The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will finish 2023 at home by hosting the East Hardy Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Robert C. Byrd's favor as the team sits on 12 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while East Hardy has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Robert C. Byrd faced Sissonville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Robert C. Byrd snuck past Sissonville with a 42-36 win.
Meanwhile, East Hardy lost to Northern at home by a decisive 40-25 margin on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points East Hardy has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Xavia Barber, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Barber is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Chloe Miller was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds.
Robert C. Byrd's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for East Hardy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Robert C. Byrd strolled past East Hardy in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 46-27. Will Robert C. Byrd repeat their success, or does East Hardy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
