There's no place like home for Newport, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dixie Heights Colonels on Tuesday, sneaking past 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Colonels since December 19, 2019.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yamil Rondon, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of James Turner, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.

Newport has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points over those games. As for Dixie Heights, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wildcats face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Conner knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 contests -- so hopefully Newport likes a good challenge. As for Dixie Heights, they are taking a road trip to square off against Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
