Baseball Game Preview: Smoky Hill Buffaloes vs. Adams City Eagles

The Smoky Hill Buffaloes will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Adams City Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Smoky Hill is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Littleton. Smoky Hill came out on top against Littleton by a score of 9-6 on Tuesday.

Jayden Blackmore and Hudson Roth were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Blackmore tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Roth struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Blackmore scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Roth went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave Blackmore a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Fonseca, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Anwyl Gutierrez-Trujillo was another, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases.

Meanwhile, Adams City hadn't done well against Rangeview recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Adams City skirted past Rangeview 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 29, 2024.

Smoky Hill took their victory against Adams City in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 22-1. Does Smoky Hill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Adams City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
