Basketball Recap: Goshen Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Sueann Watt and Taryn Hill

Goshen lost against Wawasee back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Goshen RedHawks came up short against the Wawasee Warriors, falling 41-19. While losing is never fun, the RedHawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Warriors are ranked 84th).

Taryn Hill and Sueann Watt certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hill posted eight points along with five boards and three steals, while Watt put up no points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Goshen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive contests.

Wawasee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Couture, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to four blocks and three steals. Couture continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Beer, who had seven points along with five boards and five steals.

Goshen has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Wawasee, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Goshen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-27 win against Dowagiac on the 14th. Wawasee and Bethany Christian will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wawasee is facing Bethany Christian at the right time seeing as Bethany Christian is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
