The Sherrard Tigers will square off against the Alleman Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sherrard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Sherrard took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Mercer County. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Savanah Hauger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makensie Westfall, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Makenzy Moran was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Sherrard hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Alleman fell victim to East Moline United and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 11-0 to the Panthers. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alleman's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Sherrard, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-3.
Alleman's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sherrard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Alleman, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Sherrard's sizable advantage in that area, the Pioneers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sherrard was able to grind out a solid win over Alleman in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
