Eagle and Middleton are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will welcome the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Eagle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Eagle's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Meridian 12-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Eagle got a great performance from Zac Ricks as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Ricks a new career-high.
At the plate, Keaton Rust was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Lame, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Eagle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meridian only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Middleton faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vikings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots, sneaking past 1-0. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won five matchups in a row.
Not much got past Cam Lenius, who gave up just five hits to keep Centennial off the board.
Middleton's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Eagle, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eagle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Middleton struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
