Basketball Recap: Sandhills Valley Comes Up Short

Sandhills Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 28th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-35 heartbreaker at the hands of South Loup. The Mavericks lost against South Loup in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 58-28 score last time.

Shelby Layher and Briley Kramer certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Layher dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 boards, while Kramer posted seven points along with ten boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Sandhills Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Sandhills Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for South Loup, with the win, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-7.

Sandhills Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cody-Kilgore on January 17th. As for South Loup, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-20 loss against Hershey on the 7th.
