Softball Recap: Fernley Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Fernley can now relate to. They fell 6-2 to the Churchill County Greenwave on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the sixth time they've come up short against the Greenwave this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-3 defeat last Saturday.

Janessa Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Fernley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Tollestrup, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Tollestrup has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 24 times she's played.

Fernley's loss dropped their record down to 29-11. As for Churchill County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-11.

Fernley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-3 victory against Boulder City on the 16th. Hopefully Churchill County paid attention to the Vaqueros' matchup: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Vaqueros at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
