Clay Center waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They had just enough and edged the Council Grove Braves out 57-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since January 5, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Council Grove lost, don't look at Brycen Palmquist. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-12 to rack up 14 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Palmquist has become a key player for Council Grove: the team is 10-4 when he posts at least three steals, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzer Spittles, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points.

Clay Center pushed their record up to 13-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Council Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

Coming up, Clay Center will face off against Rock Creek on Friday. As for Council Grove, they will square off against Burlington at 7:30 p.m. on February 24th.
