Football Recap: Island Coast Takes a Loss

Island Coast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Lemon Bay Manta Rays, falling 51-14. On the bright side, the 14- point performance marked the Gators' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Despite the loss, Island Coast still got an impressive performance from Alijah Touchstone, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Touchstone really tore up the turf during one magnificent 72-yard run. Island Coast also got help from Christian Henderson, who showed off his sure hands for 119 receiving yards.

It was another big night for Carlos Serrano, who rushed for 120 yards and four TDs on only six carries for Lemon Bay. Drew Moormann was another key player, rushing for 96 yards on only eight carries.

Island Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Lemon Bay, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Island Coast will host Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd. The Fightin' Tarpons' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Gators' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lemon Bay, after each having a week off, they and Estero will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
