Softball Recap: Agricultural Science Cyclones vs. Juarez Eagles
If Agricultural Science was feeling good off their 22-2 takedown of Solorio last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Agricultural Science Cyclones fell victim to a tough 18-8 defeat at the hands of the Juarez Eagles on Monday. Agricultural Science was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Juarez apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2016.
Kaitlynn Malinowski made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Schied, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, a triple, and a double.
On Juarez's side, Rosa Patino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Patino was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Martha Patino was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of her eight plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Yasmin Hernandez was another key contributor, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Agricultural Science's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Juarez, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Agricultural Science will take on Curie at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Juarez, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Kelly at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
