Basketball Recap: Selma Takes a Loss

Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 60-34 to the Bishop Amat Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 998th, while the Lancers are ranked 131st).

Bishop Amat was led to victory by Aiden Shaw and Brandon Billups. Shaw went 7 of 13 on his way to 14 points along with seven boards and five assists, while Billups went 6 of 8 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Shaw is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristian Chavira, who posted five points and three steals.

Selma's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Bishop Amat, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Selma didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-49 loss against Paso Robles on the 27th. As for Bishop Amat, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-46 victory against Arroyo Grande on the 27th.
