Basketball Recap: Trego Drops Season-High Score on Russell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Trego). They managed a 77-71 win over the Russell Broncos on Friday. For the Golden Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 64-34 victory the Broncos walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Russell's loss came despite strong showings from Sam Thielen and Trey Carlson. Thielen posted 22 points, while Carlson went 7-for-9 to rack up 17 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Thielen a new career-high in points. Dominick Hernandez was another key player, putting up seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Trego now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Russell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.

Looking ahead, Trego is taking a road trip to take on Quinter at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Quinter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season. As for Russell, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ellinwood at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Russell's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
