Baseball Recap: Vandalia Gets the Win

Vandalia let Carlyle stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Monday but luckily Vandalia prevailed anyway. The Vandals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Indians/Lady Indians, sneaking past 9-8. That's more bragging rights for the Vandals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Jack Lewis, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Jones, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Vandalia and bumps their season record up to 10-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Carlyle, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vandalia will face off against North Clay/Clay City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carlyle, they will challenge Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
