Baseball Recap: Gibsonburg's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Gibsonburg dropped their record down to 8-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Calvert Senecas, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Senecas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 back in March.

As for Calvert, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Calvert's part, Logan Ritzler made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Ritzler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Ritzler wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Moyer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Moyer has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played.

Coincidentally, Gibsonburg and Calvert will both be playing Hopewell-Loudon the next time they take the field. The Golden Bears will head out to face the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Senecas will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
