Softball Game Preview: Red Hook Raiders vs. New Paltz Huguenots

Red Hook hasn't had much luck against New Paltz recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Raiders will host the Huguenots at 4:15 p.m.

Red Hook is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Spackenkill.

Meanwhile, New Paltz won against Rondout Valley on Monday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Huguenots were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Spackenkill. The Huguenots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

Lili Tozzi made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Morales, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Molly Saunders was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

New Paltz hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spackenkill struck out eight times.

New Paltz is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Red Hook, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
