Baseball Recap: Gillespie Miners vs. Alton Redbirds
Gillespie proved they can win big on Friday (they won by seven) but on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged the Alton Redbirds out 11-9.
The team relied heavily on Bryce Hohnsbehn, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Jesse Berry was another key contributor, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and a double.
Gillespie has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Alton, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.
Gillespie will take on Vandalia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alton, they will head out on the road to square off against O'Fallon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alton is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
