Baseball Recap: Dudley Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Dudley hadn't done well against Eastern Guilford recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Dudley was the clear victor by a 15-4 margin over Eastern Guilford. Considering the Panthers have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Donovan Locklear made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Dudley: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dudley got a massive performance out of Jayven Baize, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one double. Dudley is undefeated when Baize posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Brayden Jeffries was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Dudley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win (which was Dudley's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern Guilford, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dudley will face off against Burlington Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Burlington Christian Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Dudley's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Eastern Guilford, they will take on Southern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Guilford will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Eastern Guilford surely won't give up without a fight.
