Softball Game Preview: Sumiton Christian Eagles vs. Oak Mountain Eagles

Sumiton Christian is 2-8 against Oak Mountain since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Sumiton Christian will venture away from home to take on Oak Mountain at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sumiton Christian took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Northside, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Rams on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oak Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mortimer Jordan on Monday, sneaking past 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.

Oak Mountain saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elia Carrillo, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Carrillo has posted since back in February. Sheridan Andrews was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Oak Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 11-4 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Oak Mountain's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-14. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sumiton Christian, their record is now 19-14.

Sumiton Christian couldn't quite finish off Oak Mountain in their previous matchup last Saturday and fell 2-0. Can Sumiton Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
