Softball Recap: Normal Community Makes It Ten in a Row at Home

Five must be Normal Community's lucky number: they beat Champaign Central with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Ironmen beat the Maroons by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-3. The win was nothing new for the Ironmen as they're now sitting on five straight.

The team relied heavily on Bailey Engel, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. McKenna Baughman was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Normal Community hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Normal Community pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Champaign Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normal Community will face off against Streator at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Champaign Central, they will square off against Altamont at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 1.2 runs per game this season, so the Maroons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
