It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Newton had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the Southwood Knights 7-0. The Spartans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last eight matchups.
Sydney Rainford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Paige Culbreth was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in May. Caylee Oxley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
North Newton's record is now 23-3-1. As for Southwood, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 21-11 record.
As of now, neither North Newton nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
