Baseball Recap: Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears vs. Sitka Wolves
Juneau-Douglas had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it four. They lost 6-0 to the Sitka Wolves. That's two games in a row now that the Crimson Bears have lost by exactly six runs.
As for Sitka, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 22-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games.
For Sitka's part, Bryce Calhoun made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. Calhoun has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
Calhoun wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brett Ross, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Ross is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Caleb Calhoun was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
As of now, neither Juneau-Douglas nor Sitka have any future games scheduled.
